Efficient Extraction of Metal Ions Using a Recirculating Two‐Stage Flow Reactor

We report a simple flow reactor for the selective extraction of target metal ions from an aqueous solution, using passive mixers and liquid-liquid separators. The takes place in two stages. In first stage, are selectively transferred to organic phase containing extractant molecules; and, second acid solution strips regenerates (uncomplexed) molecules, thereby allowing them be recirculated through reactor. Using mixtures copper sulphate nickel as test solutions, ion rates 98 % achieved, copper-selective phenolic oxime ligand 5-(tert-butyl)-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde molecular extractant. two-stage, recirculating nature minimises use both molecules supporting solvent, resulting greener, more economical process.
